Goose on the Loose!

Wally Bytnar herding geese and goslings from the Weiss Hospital parking lot in Chicago.

The call went out one Saturday morning for help at the emergency room—that is the parking lot where Wally Bytnar was trying to corral a herd of birds. Specifically a family of geese. Six little goslings had hatched a couple weeks ago on the Weiss Hospital garage rooftop garden where JPUSA members do a fair bit of urban farming (watch for upcoming post on urban rooftop beekeeping). Something had spooked the mama and she was attempting to waddle her babies to the lakefront. Across traffic and under a viaduct and through a park packed with a multitude of kite flyers.

Thank you, Ted Jindrich, for contributing these pictures. Jesus People USA as a community works with others in their immediate neighborhood on projects that strengthen and enliven Uptown. Right now we are open to applications for Summer Interns. Check out our website and see if you have the right stuff—or in the case of helping herd goslings: the right fluff.
